About me

My Philosophy about birth
Women are strong! Women were made to have babies. Their bodies know what to do. Birth should not be messed with. Shhhh!! Birth wants a quiet, safe, dark and respected environment.
Birth needs time! No clocks! Being informed and prepared will ensure you birth with courage, strength, calm and confidence.
The baby should be seen as a partner in birth, working with the mother and listened to. The birthing mother should be asked permission for procedures. Respect for privacy in birth is important.
No bullying in the birthroom!
BIRTH IS A BEAUTIFUL BLESSING

I reside in Durbanville in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town with my husband and three gorgeous children.
I have a very deep passion for birth and breastfeeding (7 years of breastfeeding 3 kids). I believe that every woman should have positive birth experiences, no matter the type of birth she chooses. It is my quest to support and empower couples with information about child birth. Making informed choices about birth brings a much needed confidence into the birth room. Moms can birth their babies in the best way possible when they are informed.
A traumatic birth experience with my first son (natural birth in hospital with epidural) is what led me to where I am today. A birth junkie!
After falling pregnant again almost 4 years later I had to look for other birthing options, as having another traumatic birth was not in my planning. As a couple on a quest to find a care provider that`s both caring and thorough, we looked into home birth as an option and went to see an independent Midwife. Wow! What a change! We definitely found what we were looking for, and more!
After another easy pregnancy I had a short, smooth and beautiful but intense home water birth with my Midwife and an Obstetrician as a back up.
What an incredible and life changing experience! The power of the mind is something to admire! As I was taking in the moment of the first latch, smelling that newborn head (oh how I love that newborn smell) my thoughts went back to the last part of the birth. The difficult part where you can not continue, but you do! I thought about that and I remembered the midwife repeating with each breath "Strength and calm in, pain and fear out". And that is what I did. I filled myself with strength and pushed the fear out. It can be done. I amazed myself!

So here we are! Two beautiful boys! What more can a mom ask for? (Well apparently she asks for a little girl).

Out of the blue (or maybe somewhere else...) baby number 3 makes her appearance almost 4 years later. The gender to be revealed at the birth! Not knowing the gender added such a magical element of fun and excitement to the birth. Another fast and beautifully relaxed, home water birth with the same midwife! I breathed my baby down and her head was born without any pushing as we had planned. Some mild shoulder dystocia was handled beautifully by my experienced midwife merely by a change of position and abandoning the "no pushing" plan. One small push and she was born! A girl! What a surprise to us all! Again I revel at the sheer power of the mind (and body) and the ability to overcome anything if you put your mind to it! I am reminded while smelling that newborn squish...I am strong!

Two beautiful boys and a girl! What more can a mom ask for?

Well... for now, that is all this mom asks for. As much as I like the newborn smell and birth itself, no tiny human shall pass through my body again.

Instead, I can support, prepare and help other women as they birth their babies in the most beautiful and memorable way possible. With knowledge, strength, love and confidence!
